THEY may never make it to the top, but the Cagayan de Oro’s lady spikers have a lot to gain in the just-concluded Mayor Iñaki W. Zubiri 18th Charter Day Invitational Volleyball League in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Held at the breezy town’s Freedom Park covered court from March 18-20, the Angelicum Learning Centre high school wards of coach Bong Rameri did win twice in their bracket against Iligan City Spartans and Sultan Naga Demaporo of Lanao del Norte.
Reinforced by Xavier University High School and St. Mary’s School players, the ALC volleybelles—who will represent Northern Mindanao (NMRAA) in this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Albay—however, failed to qualify in the big four round after also losing twice to the University of Mindanao and neighboring squad, Davao Optima.
“But it’s already a big plus for our junior players experience-wise kay mga college and commercial teams ang ilang mga kontra sa Malaybalay,” said the NMRAA girls’ avid supporter, Peanuts Uy.
Also entered in the three-day tourney organized by Corpus Christi coach and Mocova official Alex Adeva were teams Cebu, Jepoy Surplus-CDO, OWL de Dabaw, Buksu, OZC Green, Exodus Iloilo, JPC Cebu, Batang Sulo, Panlibatuhan Valencia, Ozamis Engracia, SDN Ozamis City and CMU-Bukidnon.
Meanwhile, the Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro Volleyball Association (Mocova) will hold the Ladies Open Beach Volleyball on March 26-27 at Marvilla Beach Resort in Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Adeva said the two-day tourney, staking P10,000, P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 for the top-4 team finishers, will have limited slots only.
