Women entrepreneurship program revival eyed

A WOMEN empowerment group is strongly pushing for the revival of "Mag-Negosyo Ta Day," a program aimed at developing social entrepreneurship of Dabawenyas instead of being passive recipients of financial assistance from the local government.

Former MTD management staff head Lorna Mandin, chief of the Integrated Gender Development Division (IGDD), said the program has already established and identified active participants and beneficiaries from community-based organized women, barangay-cased micro-entrepreneurs, and some members of the Indigenous Peoples.

"It would be a total waste to let an advantageous program evaporate when we have interested participants and recipients," Mandin said.

MTD, according to her, is designed to empower women and be a partner of local government in pursuing social change through jobs creation.

She added that MTD has conducted various trainings even before it was shelved some three years ago.

MTD also has a number of specially designed carts strategically located in prominent places and establishments around the city to promote products: handicrafts, food, etc.

Mandin said the program will definitely boost Mayor Inday Sara Duterte's agenda against poverty. (CIO)
