Y-Speak: Porn stars behind the camera

SEX is the most sacred practice that only married couples are supposed to do. Everyone is well aware that sexual intercourse should be done privately at home or alone with one’s significant other. But there are just some people who enjoy sex publicly.

Actors and actresses who work in adult films are stereotyped as disgusting and worthless. These actors receive judgments, accusing them of having filthy, unprotected sex every single day. Little did people know that these repeatedly labeled “sluts” are not your typical, cloth less entertainers.

People often describe them as diseased or unclean. Adult stars are actually tested twice a month, even twice a week. They don’t even do drugs, so technically, they’re actually sexually healthy.

To answer everybody’s question, no, they don’t have sex every minute. The performers are not just focused on sex all the time. It’s just simply their job.

“When I'm not on set, I'm doing all the things normal people with normal jobs do. I'm certainly not running around banging strangers 24/7,” Casey Calvert said.

The stars’ private lives have already been exposed, but their normal lives have remained unknown to the public. Apart from porn, other porn stars are actually more educated individuals who have potentials and simply go on with their full-time job as a regular lawyer or a student finishing a bachelor’s degree, some are even business women or even athletes in mainstream sports.

It’s just like a regular person who goes out, wears his suit and tie, and heads off for work. But the thing with porn stars, they only grab so much attention because of doing what they love, which is sex and they describe it as a form of art. But the same goes for an architect who loves to design buildings, right? It’s just a matter of loving one’s job. Porn is only their secondary job. Once it’s done, they go back to making dinner, complete their home works, clean and do the laundry, just like regular people.

“My roommate and best friend is a porn star. We are very close and I would have to say the life isn't very glamorous. He works full time for a national retail chain in downtown. Nobody knows about his porn, he stays pretty anonymous,” an anonymous said.

Some stars are also religious despite their unfavorable job. Monica Mayhem shares her Wiccan religious beliefs as she describes it to be the helping hand that centers her. In fact, Mayhem spends most of her time writing her book, “Absolute Mayhem”, instead of spreading her legs in front of the camera.

Mia Li, an Asian adult film performer, is actually a rock climber for six years. She’s also a food blogger and loves to compose lyrics with her own ukulele. Aside from her drastically obscene films, she shares insights in her YouTube videos about how she offers unique perspective relationships.

Talk about relationships, you might say that porn stars are having trouble looking for true love. Think again.

Mike Adkins, a freelance video worker and owner of a photo booth company, has been in a one-year relationship with porn star, Allie Haze. Sources claimed that he and Allie have always been honest about everything. Mike says that Allie has been the most open partner he’s ever had as Allie introduces Mike to her fellow co-stars, “This is my man, Michael”, which leaves Mike with realizations that at the end of the day, it is indeed just a business.

“I would say anybody who thinks porn stars are bad people are just out of their minds because you can't judge anybody unless you've met them,” Mike said.

Other porn stars also come home to a happy marriage after a stressful day at work as they describe sex and love as two different things. They proudly exclaim that off-camera sex is, in fact, more intimate. Monica Mayhem dismissed the adult world and spends the rest of her life to a veterinarian in Sydney, Australia.

Others find love in the industry like New York Times writer and porn actress, Kayden Kross who is about to be married to Manuel Ferrara, who is also a porn actor. “I started porn so one day I could meet her,” Manuel said.

Aside from the star’s support from their significant other, they also get support from hundreds of fans, and even their own parents. But apart from the support, fame and loads of cash, porn stars are not so luxurious after all.

They are just like Hollywood actresses who are demanded to act according to their roles. Since they are only based on sexual intercourse performance, they are forced and blackmailed to do the act. In return, its either cash or permission to send porn to one’s family members.

Yes, porn stars also experience sex trafficking. Others are forced into porn for financial needs. They make efforts to be consistent in their rankings by answering every email and performing on screen with the director’s satisfaction.

People think life of a porn star is easy as they can easily do their job with pleasure. The stars usually fake moans and orgasms just to perfect a demanded scene. Others describe their porn life to be a tragedy, just like Shelley Lubben, who is now the founder of the Pink Cross Foundation who aims to pull out other abused performers.

Porn stars receive the most judgments amongst all the jobs, but that’s not their only option. They chose porn because they simply love it.

“I am a normal, complex, kind of awesome human being, I am much more,” sex worker Siouxsie Q said. (Jossan May Luga)
