Zambo abattoir retains Class ‘AA’ classification

THE slaughterhouse facility, which is one Zamboanga City Government’s economic enterprises, has retained its Class “AA” classification after passing the Good Manufacturing Practices audit and accreditation.

The evaluation of the facility was undertaken on Monday by the National Meat Inspection Services, Meat Safety and Quality Assurance, and the Accreditation and Enforcement Services.

The Class “AA” abattoir should be complete with facilities and operational procedures sufficiently adequate to slaughter food animals, or premises to cut and pack carcasses or primal parts based on the rules and regulations governing the accreditation of meat establishments.

It should also be capable to process and manufacture meat and meat products for inter-provincial distribution and sale in any meat market nationwide.

Marie Angelique Go, City Administrator, said that more hogs and cattle are being slaughtered at the city abattoir daily thus raising the facility’s revenue.

Go said that last week’s revenue earnings of the abattoir was P109,833. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
