Zamboanga City donates P40-M worth of armchairs

THE Zamboanga City Government has donated 44,000 monobloc armchairs worth more or less P40 million to the Department of Education (DepEd) through the City Schools Division Office.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the turnover of the donated chairs held on Tuesday, August 15, at the gymnasium of the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School.

Schools Division Superintendent Felix Roy Triambulo and Assistant Superintendent Julieto Fernandez accepted the donation on behalf of DepEd.

Salazar said the armchairs will be distributed to all public elementary and secondary schools in this city, particularly the highly populated schools with huge shortage of armchairs.

This, she stressed, is in line with her administration’s priority thrust on education, being a component of the She Program for Security, Health and Education.

Salazar said the city government puts premium on education as it is the key to providing the children with better future.

“Let us continue to help make our children’s future a reality today,” she said.

Salazar said her administration does not just construct school buildings and classrooms, but “we will fill them up with armchairs to address the gab.”

Through the Local School Board, the city government had appropriated initially P15.7 million for 19,625 units of armchairs for elementary schools, and P8.9 million for 11,200 armchairs for secondary schools.

Beginning this year, the City Government brings about a new design for school buildings which will allow natural light, greater ventilation and environment-friendly concept. (SunStar Philippines)
