Zamboanga City gov’t checks road diggings, excavations

THE City Government of Zamboanga started the conduct of an inventory of ongoing road diggings and excavations to determine if these are compliant to the provisions of City Ordinance 309.

City Administrator Marie Angelique Go said section 2 of Ordinance 309 provides the conditions before any person, entity or contractor can excavate or damage any portion of the street of the city for various purposes.

Citing the law, Go said no person, entity or contractor will be allowed to excavate or damage any portion or any road of the street of Zamboanga like for the purpose of installing underground pipes and water, light and telephone connections without obtaining prior permission from the City Engineers’ Office (CEO).

It is also the CEO that shall issue a permit for the purpose but only after an inspection of the road or street on which such excavation is to be made.

A permit fee is to be collected from the concerned at a cost of P40 per square meter but the area to be excavated should not exceed one kilometer, according to Go. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
