Zamboanga to participate in farm tourism conference

ZAMBOANGA City will participate in the 4th Farm Tourism conference to be held in Tagaytay City from July 14 to 16.

City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian-Hernandez said the three-day event aims to introduce innovations on how to cultivate profit through the growing industry of Farm Tourism as well as to raise awareness on its benefits, promoting destinations and products from all over the country.

Hernandez added the best practices from local and international experts were expected during the event.

Farm-Tourism, a convergence of both farm and tourism, was a concept coined by former Department of Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor in 2013.

Farm per se is primarily on food production and tourism conventionally is on culture, history, and sites, with farm-tourism, farm becomes a contributor in tourism through farm activities.

Last year, the City Tourism Office took pride in coming up with an additional tour menu, the farm tour, where the NJB Farm in the village of Ayala and the Dragon Fruit Farm in Cacao village were showcased as appropriate models of a true farm experience.

Dragon Fruit Farm owners Maricor Ramos and Johanna Santos are joining the 4th Farm Conference per invitation of the City Tourism Office.

The 4th Farm Tourism Conference was organized by MyEventology Co. in cooperation with the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board. (Bong Garcia)
