AMERICAN men’s tennis has reached a significant milestone, with Ben Shelton climbing two spots to No. 10 in the latest ATP rankings.
This achievement places him alongside No. 4 Taylor Fritz and No. 8 Tommy Paul, marking the first time in nearly 20 years that three American men have simultaneously held spots in the ATP top 10.
The last occurrence was in April 2006, with Andy Roddick (No. 4), James Blake (No. 7) and Andre Agassi (No. 10).
On the women’s side, American strength in the WTA rankings remains evident.
This week, four American women are in the top 10 and five are in the top 13: No. 2 Coco Gauff, No. 3 Jessica Pegula, No. 6 Madison Keys, No. 9 Emma Navarro and No. 13 Amanda Anisimova.
In other notable ranking news, Aryna Sabalenka maintains her No. 1 position, a spot she claimed from Iga Swiatek in October. Swiatek has now dropped to No. 8.
Additionally, 37-year-old German Tatjana Maria made a remarkable leap of 43 spots to No. 43 after winning the Queen’s Club title as
a qualifier.
Shelton, at just 22 years old, is quickly making his mark on the professional tour.
The 2022 NCAA singles champion for the University of Florida is only in his third full season and remarkably did not travel outside the US until 2023.
Despite his relative newness to the international circuit, Shelton has already reached two Grand Slam semifinals, at the 2023 US Open and the Australian Open this past January.
Fritz has also seen a rise, moving up three spots to match his career-high ranking after securing a grass-court title in Stuttgart, Germany, on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
The top three spots in the men’s rankings remain unchanged, with No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3 Alexander Zverev, who was the runner-up to Fritz in Stuttgart.
