FIVE soldiers were shot and wounded during an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025. The suspect was identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, an automated logistics sergeant assigned to the base.

Maj. Gen. John Lubas, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, confirmed at a news conference that Radford used a personal handgun in the attack.

“We’re still not certain about the motivation, but again, he’s been interviewed by Army investigators and we believe we’ll gain more information here shortly,” Lubas said.

Officials noted the suspect has a prior local arrest for driving under the influence.

The base was placed on lockdown at 11:04 a.m., which was lifted later in the afternoon. A statement from the fort confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the community.

All wounded soldiers were treated on-site before being moved to Winn Army Community Hospital. By Wednesday afternoon, all victims were in stable condition and expected to survive.

Fort Stewart is located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah. The incident remains under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division, with coordination from the FBI. / XINHUA
