BRAZIL stormed into the Women’s Copa America final with a commanding 5-1 victory over Uruguay in Tuesday’s (Wednesday, July 30, 2025, PH time) semifinal, powered by a brace from standout striker Amanda Gutierres.
The win sets up a high-stakes rematch with Colombia in Saturday’s final — a repeat of the 2022 title clash, where Brazil clinched their record eighth crown.
With the semifinal triumph, the Brazilians also secured their spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“We’re really happy. It is my first final,” said the 24-year-old Gutierres. “It’s the result of the work we have been doing with the coach. Colombia are a very tough opponent, but we are working very hard to win that trophy.”
Gutierres opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a well-placed header off a precise cross from veteran Marta. Two minutes later, Gio Garbelini capitalized on a loose ball in the box to double the lead.
Uruguay nearly responded as Belen Aquino rattled the crossbar, but Brazil extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 27th minute via a penalty from Marta — her first goal of the tournament.
Uruguay found a lifeline in the 51st minute through an own goal by Isa Haas, but Brazil quickly shut the door on any comeback hopes.
Gutierres curled in a stunning free kick in the 65th minute to restore the three-goal cushion, before substitute Dudinha sealed the win with a late strike in the 86th. / FROM THE WIRES
