MERAB Dvalishvili proved once again that he has Sean O’Malley’s number, submitting the top-ranked challenger in the third round to retain his 135-pound championship at UFC 316 on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.

Dvalishvili’s performance was not just about defending his title — it was about settling the score, and doing so decisively. After beating O’Malley by unanimous decision last year in what many critics called a one-sided but uneventful bout, Dvalishvili returned to the Octagon with something to prove. This time, he didn’t leave it to the judges.

Before a raucous crowd that included President Donald Trump and boxing icon Mike Tyson, Dvalishvili (19-4) showcased his relentless pace and grappling dominance, ultimately forcing O’Malley to tap out in the third round. The win marked his 13th straight MMA victory and solidified his status as one of the most durable and dangerous bantamweights in the sport.

“I’m on top of the world!” Dvalishvili roared from atop the cage as he soaked in the moment.

In a night that featured multiple champions, Dvalishvili stood out as the only 135-pound titleholder to successfully defend his belt. / RSC
