THE New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 (PH time), following the loss in the Eastern Conference Finals against old rival Indiana Pacers.
Team officials called the move a “difficult decision,” but said it was a necessary step in their pursuit of a championship.
“We can’t thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also to tremendous success on the court with four playoff berths and four playoff series victories,” team president Leon Rose said in a statement.
Thibodeau, 66, helped revitalize the Knicks since taking over in 2020, turning the long-struggling franchise into a playoff contender. This year’s run to the conference finals marked the team’s best showing in 25 years, earning Thibodeau praise for maximizing a roster hit hard by injuries and lacking star power compared to rivals.
Thibodeau finishes his tenure in New York with a regular-season record of 175-143 and two playoff appearances in four seasons. The search for his replacement is expected to begin immediately. / RSC
