THE upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on free trade could begin in late September or early October, Mexican Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Ebrard told reporters that US regulations require consultations with various sectors ahead of the trade deal’s review in the coming months.
Mexico will “evaluate everything” as well, Ebrard said, adding that he is currently working with the country’s business sector on steel and aluminum issues.
Ebrard said he hopes Mexico’s economy will enter a period of “greater economic regionalization,” with greater integration across North America.
Mexico’s economy -- the second largest in Latin America after Brazil -- grew 1.4 percent in 2024, down from 3.3 percent the previous year, according to the latest official figures.
The Mexican government estimates the economy will grow between 1.5 percent and 2.3 percent in 2025. / XINHUA
