Filipinas falls to Scotland in Pinatar Cup

THE Philippines absorbed another defeat in the 2023 Pinatar Cup after a 2-1 loss to Scotland on Saturday night (PH time), Feb. 18, 2023, at the Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.

Lauren Davidson gave Scotland the lead just before halftime with a goal in the 39th minute coming off an assist by Christy Grimshaw.

Scotland doubled the lead after Rachel Corsie converted her shot in the 57th minute from a corner kick by Caroline Weir, who plays professionally for Real Madrid’s women’s team.

The Filipinas fought back hard and finally hit a goal near the end of the match. Meryll Serrano, who just had her fifth cap for the Philippines, scored the goal after a well-executed free kick in the 90th minute.

The Philippines dropped down to last place with no points. Iceland remained at the top with four points and edged out Wales, which also has four points, on goal difference. Scotland moved to third with three points. (AP)
