Zelenskyy holds phone talk with Trump

KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, July 14, 2025, spoke by phone with United States President Donald Trump.

In a post on X, Zelensky said their discussion focused on measures to better protect Ukrainians from Russian attacks and to strengthen Ukraine’s position.

“We are ready to work as productively as possible to achieve peace,” Zelensky said.

He also said Trump shared details of his recent meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Zelensky spoke with Rutte by phone the same day. During the call, the Nato chief outlined US-European cooperation aimed at sustaining and strengthening support for Ukraine.

Zelensky said the United States, Germany and Norway are working together to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced an agreement with Nato regarding weapons aid for Ukraine during his meeting with Rutte in Washington, DC. / XINHUA
