More than 240 Fernandino moms from the six rural health units (RHUs) in the City of San Fernando participated in a one-minute simultaneous breastfeeding event during the newest edition of "The Big Latch On" at the Heroes Hall on August 7, 2025.
In the program organized by the City Nutrition Committee (CNC) and City Health Office (CHO), Dr. Rowena Salas said the constant participation of the city in the annual event is part of the city government's support for the global breastfeeding campaign.
Aside from the “sabayang pagpapasuso" program supported by Mayor Vilma Caluag, the San Fernando moms were likewise oriented on breastfeeding, maternal care, and child protection by Dr. Faye Clarice Mallari-Maturan and Dr. Marigold Sibal of the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital.
The city government also distributed Buntis, newborn, and maternal kits, vitamins and medicines during the activity.
August has been designated as “National Breastfeeding Awareness Month” in the Philippines.
The local government said participation in the global “The Big Latch On” is one of its activities.
