A Tribute to Engr. Don Dizon: Humility and Dedication in Public Service

The news of the passing of Engr. Don Dizon, fondly known as Koyang Don, has sent a wave of grief through Angeles City. His loss leaves a void that is impossible to fill, but his legacy of public service and dedication to his craft will continue to inspire us all.

I had the honor and privilege to work alongside Engr. Don Dizon for three terms under the Pamintuan administration at the Angeles City LGU. His commitment to his role as a city engineer was unparalleled. He was a man who lived and breathed his work, often referred to as the 24/7 city engineer, a testament to his tireless dedication.

Working in public service is never an eight-to-five job. It requires passion, dedication, and a deep-seated love for one's community. Engr. Don embodied all of these qualities and more. He was always available, always ready to answer calls and respond to texts, even beyond office hours and on weekends. His commitment to his duty was unwavering, and his diligence to his craft was inspiring.

A significant part of my work with Engr. Don involved regular radio interviews, press conferences, and coordinating various city events like Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan (TTKD), Lubenas ning Pascu, Fiestang Kuliat activities, and many others. In all these activities, I had the privilege of seeing the man at work.

He and Koyang Andy Dizon, the city’s former GSO head, were the heroes behind the scenes. They often teased me that while I worked in the spotlight, they were the backstage men, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their tireless efforts often went unnoticed by the public, but their impact was undeniable.

Engr. Don's humility was one of his most endearing qualities. Despite his significant contributions, he never sought the limelight, preferring to let his work speak for itself. His humility was matched only by his enthusiasm to his craft. He was a true professional, always ensuring that his work was done to the highest standards.

But more than just a colleague, Engr. Don was a friend, a mentor, and a guide. His wisdom and insights were invaluable, and his kind-hearted nature and sense of humor always made our interactions enjoyable.

Engr. Don Dizon's passing is a great loss for our public service sector and for Angeles City. But his legacy lives on, inspiring all of us who had the chance to know and work with him.

Kong Don, your grit and love for our city will never be forgotten. Your story will continue to inspire generations of public servants. You will be greatly missed, but your legacy will live on. You have left an indelible mark to Angeles city and our hearts.

Rest in peace, Koyang Don. Your work here is done, but your impact will be felt forever.
