The recent rains over Central and Northern Luzon has triggered a slight increase in the water level of Angat Dam.
This was recorded as of 8 AM, Tuesday, reaching 197.93 meters, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
This marks a 0.17-meter rise from the previous day's 8 AM reading of 197.76 meters.
Despite the increase, the current reservoir water level remains 12.07 meters below the Normal High Water Level (NHWL) of 210.00 meters.
Compared to the rule curve elevation of 183.49 meters, the dam is 14.44 meters above the target guideline, the agency said.
Aside from domestic use, Angat Dam's water is a vital source of irrigation for some 20,000 hectares of farmlands in Bulacan.
In addition to this, Pagasa said that some 2,000 hectares of farmlands in Candaba, San Luis, and Santa Ana in Pampanga also rely on the dam for water supply.
The current water level is still far from the critical threshold for drinking water, which is set at 160.00 meters.
Angat Dam reached its lowest level at 157.76 meters in July 2010, during an El NiƱo phenomenon year.
This incident prompted authorities to temporarily stop operations due to low water levels.
