The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) was moved from December 1, 2025 to the first Monday of November 2026.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday signed Republic Act No. 12232, postponing the BSKE and fixing the term of office of village and youth officials at four years.

The next BSKE will be held on the first Monday of November 2026 and every four years thereafter, with winners assuming office on December 1 following the elections.

Under the new law, no barangay official may serve more than three consecutive terms in the same position, while SK officials may serve only one term.

Incumbent officials will remain in a hold-over capacity unless removed or suspended, but those serving their third consecutive term will be barred from seeking re-election in 2026.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier reported that a total of 2,7272,643 applications for registration of voters for the BSKE were processed from August 1-10.

Calarbarzon (Region 4-A) recorded the highest number of registrants for the 10 days with 324,017, followed by Negros Island Region (NIR) with 234,032; Central Luzon (Region 3) with 220,650 and Bicol (Region 5) with 206,845.

The Cordillera Administrative Region recorded the lowest number of applications with 48,757.

The Comelec added that it will ask Congress for an additional P4 billion budget, on top of the P11 billion already given to the poll body.

“Everything that has been funded is automatically budgeted when BSKE is reset. However, there is a high possibility that if BSKE is reset, we will ask for an additional budget. We did not include it in the 2026 GAA (General Appropriations Act) proposal because there is no announcement and law yet,” said Comelec Chairperson George Garcia.

He said that aside from the additional voters, the budget will also be used for the salaries of teachers and the procurement of election paraphernalia, among others.
