Being an "Easter" people
“Breakthrough is coming!” This is a beautiful Easter mantra that we must keep on saying and keep on believing. After the rain comes the sun. After the darkness, the light will shine. After the fighting, peace will reign. As an Easter people, may we continue to become instruments of light, peace, joy, and undying hope." This captivating and inspiring message from Fr. Jerry Orbos, SVD, beautifully captures the motivation I need as I continue to pursue the path I’ve chosen in life.
“Breakthrough is coming!”—these words ring with such powerful hope and anticipation that they immediately stir something deep within me. As I reflect on this Easter mantra, I am reminded of the countless times in my life when I felt stuck, uncertain, or weighed down by challenges. But just like the message of Easter, this phrase reassures me that even the hardest seasons are temporary. There's always the promise of something better on the horizon—something brighter, freer, and full of new life.
Easter is more than just a religious celebration to me; it's a reminder that transformation is always possible. The line “after the rain comes the sun” speaks to the inevitability of healing. Just as the earth cannot remain in a storm forever, our souls, too, are destined to be renewed. I’ve experienced moments of deep emotional and spiritual darkness, but looking back, those were the very seasons that prepared me for growth and led me toward breakthroughs I couldn’t have imagined.
The phrase “after the fighting, peace will reign” touches a particularly tender part of my heart. So often, we find ourselves battling not just external conflicts but internal ones—doubts, fears, regrets. Yet Easter teaches us that peace is not just a possibility, but a promise. It's a peace that surpasses understanding, one that doesn’t erase the pain of the past but transforms it into something meaningful. In those quiet moments of reflection, I’ve found that peace begins within and radiates outward.
Being an Easter person means carrying that light and hope into the world, especially when it’s hard. It means choosing to be a vessel of joy when circumstances feel bleak, and choosing to believe in the goodness of others when cynicism is easier. I aspire to be someone who uplifts, who believes in miracles, and who spreads kindness even in the smallest ways. Every act of light, no matter how small, is a step toward a breakthrough—for myself and for others.
So I will continue to say it: “Breakthrough is coming.” Not just for me, but for those around me, for the broken systems in our world, and for the hidden wounds no one else sees. This mantra fills me with a resilient kind of faith—the kind that doesn't deny reality but moves through it with hope. And as we move forward as an Easter people, may we all continue to believe, to shine, and to wait with open hearts for the sun that always follows the rain.
