BFAR: No red tide in C. Luzon waters

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said that coastal waters of Central Luzon are free from red tide organisms.

On its Shellfish Bulletin No. 15, Series of 2025, issued on July 14, 2025, BFAR said shellfish samples collected from the Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Zambales are free from red tide toxin.

The bulletin assured the public that shellfish harvested from these areas safe for human consumption.

The BFAR said that regular monitoring continues across the country to ensure the safety of seafood products.

Other areas like Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, Tantanang Bay in Zamboanga Sibugay, and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar are positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) beyond regulatory limits.

Shellfish and “alamang” from these affected areas are not safe for consumption.

However, fish, squid, shrimp, and crabs may still be eaten if they are fresh, thoroughly washed, and internal organs like gills and intestines are properly removed before cooking.

The agency advised the public to stay updated through official bulletins to avoid any health risks associated with red tide poisoning.
