The local government unit (LGU) of the City of San Fernando (CSF) has started the construction of a new track and field oval at the City Civic Center in Barangay San Isidro in the City of San Fernando.

Mayor Vilma Caluag and other city officials led the groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Monday, July 14.

Caluag said the facility will benefit young athletes, who represent the city in various sports competitions.

The track oval will confirm with international specifications, 177.51 meters long and 92.52 meters wide.

The first phase of the project includes pavement construction scheduled for completion within the year.

The second phase will cover the installation of a rubberized track and the construction of benches.

Dr. Shirley Zipagan, Schools Division Superintendent, along with teachers and coaches, thanked Caluag for the project and the support to the education and sports sectors.

Kim John Sagun, Vice Chairperson of the City Sports Development Council, said the facility is a welcome development for young athletes, who have long sought a proper venue for training.

Once completed, the facility is expected to serve as a central hub for training, competition, and recreational activities.
