Arayat Mayor Jeffrey “Jeff” Luriz has appealed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to consider developing the Cong Dadong Dam into a hydropower plant.
The mayor said the facility has the potential to generate renewable energy while serving its existing role in water management.
The appeal came as Luriz inspected the Dam on Friday August 7, 2026 amid the effects of Tropical Storm May-May.
He said the dam’s water level remained at Level 6, which is still considered low and manageable despite continuous rains.
The mayor said there are no evacuees yet in Arayat as flooding has remained under control.
However, the municipal government has already prepared evacuation centers and stockpiled food supplies should the situation deteriorate.
Luriz said the local government continues to monitor critical areas, particularly Barangays San Juan Baño and Candating, where flood control projects are under observation as repair works continue.
He urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains and to remain alert to advisories issued by the local government.
Responding to criticism on social media over the timing of class suspension announcements, Luriz said the declaration of class suspensions follows established government procedures.
He added that class suspensions are based on the proper assessment of weather conditions and official guidelines. |via Tristan Jingco
