
Fishermen in Bataan province who found and surrendered P1.5 billion worth of shabu were rewarded by the Police Regional Office III (PRO 3) with sacks of rice.
The 10 fishermen surrendered to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bataan police some 222.655 kilograms of shabu contained in ten sacks.
They discovered the drugs floating on the seawaters of West Bajo de Masinloc on May 29.
Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, PRO 3 director, said the reward in the form of sacks of rice is a "gesture of appreciation for their honesty and civic responsibility in support of safer and drug-free communities in Bataan."
“The fishermen’s integrity and cooperation with our police force reflect the highest ideals of community partnership and responsible citizenship,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, President BongBong Marcos has ordered the destruction of some P4 billion worth of shabu found by fishermen at the shores of Pangasinan on June 5 and 6.
The illegal drugs were found by 29 fishermen of the coastal communities of of Dacap Sur, Bani; Boboy, Agno; and Luciente I Balingasay and Poblacion, all in Bolinao, Pangasinan.
The Pangasinan fishermen were describes by PDEA as true heroes.
“Even in their own small ways, they prioritized the safety and well-being of others over their own and stood up for what is right,” said General Isagani Nerez, PDEA director.
