150 Apaliteño youth employed under SPES

APALIT -- As part of its youth development programs, the local government here recently hired high school and college students under the Special Program of Employment for Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Mayor Peter Nucom, who personally welcomed the SPES beneficiaries to the local government, said that a total of 150 indigent students taking summer vacations were employed in the different departments of the municipal hall.

Under the SPES, students, who are aged 15 to 30 years old, will assist in providing public service to people for 20 days in exchange for a salary, explained Nucom.

After the 20-day service, Nucom said students will receive P387 per day or a total of P7,740 as salary, wherein 60 percent or some P4,644 will come from the local government while the remaining 40 percent or some P3,096 will be given by the labor department.

“This is an annual activity of the local government which aims to provide assistance to indigent students who wish to spend their summer vacation in a productive way,” he said, adding it is the fourth year since the local government implemented the SPES program.
