2 arrested for drugs, gun

SAN SIMON -- Two suspected illegal drug peddlers were arrested by authorities here in a drug bust conducted in Barangay San Agustin this town recently.

Major Freddie Herry, this town’s chief of police, said the first suspect identified as Mark Anthony Yalung, 29, resident of City of San Fernando was arrested during an actual operation after he sold a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” to a police agent.

Herry said Yalung’s two cohorts were able to elude arrest after they sped away on board a car.

“A hot pursuit then immediately ensued to arrest the two other suspects. We requested for flash alarm and troops from Bacolor, Lubao and Sta. Rita assisted and upon reaching Sta. Rita town, suspects fired successive gunshots which the police retaliated,” Herry said.

During the exchange of gunshots, Herry said police officers were able to hit the tire of the suspects’ vehicle.

Another suspect identified as Niño Angelito, 26, was then arrested while the third suspect identified as John Cris Matitu alighted from the vehicle, fled by foot and escaped.

Confiscated from the arrested suspects were five sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P4,000, the get-away car and a caliber 38 revolver which has no proper documentation.

Yalung and Angelito are now facing charges for violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and Possession of Illegal Firearms law.
