2 workers killed, 3 others injured in bridge collapse

TWO construction workers died while three others were injured when the support of the bridge they were working on at the Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEx) in Barangay Tipo, Hemosa, Bataan, collapsed Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2020.

Major Jeffrey S. Onde, Hermosa police chief, identified the fatalities as Vevencio Pamisa, 57, of Cagayan de Oro City and Marvin Tajores, 41, of Masinloc, Zambales. Both work as scaffolders.

Injured were scaffolders Joel Petil, 41, of Subic, Zambales and Peter Pahilan, 49, of Cagayan de Oro City and carpenter/steelman Jun Salatan, 29, of Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

The report said all workers are from Sta. Clara International Corporation constructing the Jadjad Bridge under the widening expansion project at the SFEx.

Onde said around 1:20 p.m., the temporary post support of the bridge steel girder, 18 meters long and 180 tons in weight, collapsed and fell on the workers.

Pamisa and Tajores died on the spot while the injured were rushed to a hospital in Olongapo City.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. (Ric Sapnu)
