CLARK FREEPORT -- Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) earlier stranded in Clark due to travel restrictions have arrived home in Northern Mindanao on Saturday, May 9.
The 21 OFWs were transported via Philippine Airlines’ sweeper flight to Cagayan de Oro.
Their return home was made possible through the joint efforts of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), the Department of Tourism - Region 3 and Region 10, and the local government units in Northern Mindanao.
The OFWs tested negative of Covid-19 based on the Philippine Red Cross’ real-time time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing results.
They also received certifications of quarantine completion from the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Quarantine, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
While in Clark, they were provided free lodging at The Mansion Hotel, free meals and internet connection, and medical assistance.
On May 4, 42 residents of Davao who were also stranded in Clark were able to return home through a chartered flight arranged by their local government.
As of May 9, 121 individuals are staying for free at The Mansion Hotel in Clark as part of the efforts of BCDA, CDC, and CIAC to provide assistance to stranded passengers, especially returning OFWs.
