3 typhoons leave ₱367.7M damage to crops, livestock

Flooding and rainwater brought about by Tropical Storms "Bising", Crising", and “Dante” have left P367.7 million in damage to agriculture, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Pampanga said on Wednesday.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) said that local government units (LGUs) reported losses totalling P364.4 million.

This figure includes damages to rice fields, high-value crops, corn, cassava, and fisheries.

Pampanga’s fisheries sector recorded some P215.3 million in damages while rice crop losses reached P143.3 million.

Among the hardest-hit were the fishing and rice sectors in Minalin, Masantol, Macabebe, Candaba, and Apalit.

The Minalin LGU reported some P169.3 million damages to its fisheries sector, the biggest recorded losses in the fourth district.

In Masantol and Macabebe, both fishing towns, the municipal governments reported P26.8 million and P9.6 million damages, respectively.

Agricultural damages were also recorded in other municipalities in Pampanga with numbers expected to soar as more reports are collated from field officers, the provincial government stated.

Candaba town alone posted a combined damages in rice, high-value crops, corn, and fisheries totaling over P31.8 million.

The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) also reported an estimated ?3.39 million in losses to livestock.

These included damages to poultry housing, duck stocks, and egg production.

Apalit town also lost P1.6 million worth of eggs.
