APALIT - Some 5,000 students from this municipality benefit from the Mayor Jun D. Tetangco (MJDT) scholarship program.

The students received the first half of the financial assistance over the weekend amounting to a total of P10-million.

Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco Jr. personally distributed the cash grants in two separate payouts on Saturday and Sunday.

The mayor said the local government allocated a total of P20-million for this year’s scholarship program.

The cash aid is distributed per semester and this weekend’s payout is the first of the two, said Tetangco.

Tetangco advised the students to use education in opening up good opportunities for themselves.

“Mangarap kayo. Libre lang naman ‘yan kaya ‘wag ipagkait sa sarili. Pero sabayan ng sipag sa pag-aaral ang pangarap para matupad ‘yan,” he said.

The MJDT Scholarship program has helped thousands of Apalit residents finish tertiary schooling.

The program was launched during Tetangco’s first term as mayor in 2007.
