5,000 Apaliteño scholars to receive cash grants

OVER 5,000 students from the 12 barangays of Apalit will be receiving financial assistance under the local government's scholarship program.

The distribution of cash grants for the second semester of the school year kicked off on Saturday, February 29, wherein a total of 895 college students received financial assistance.

Vice Mayor Peter Nucom said the local government will be conducting a series of distribution ceremonies for the beneficiaries enrolled in various in junior and senior and high schools in the town.

"We will be visiting our scholars in their schools to personally bring their cash grants. In this way, we can also hear other possible assistance we can extend to further improve the quality of education we have in our public schools," he said.

Nucom said the local government allocated almost P6 million for the scholarship grants of a total of 5,033 scholars.

Each college student received P2,000, while junior and senior high school students will be receiving P1,000 each, Nucom said.

In his speech, he urged beneficiaries and their parents to assist each other in the schooling of the students to make the quest for higher studies easier.

"Both of you have responsibilities and it will be easier if the students have a good support system, and that is the family. The local government is also doing its part through this scholarship program," he said.

Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr., for his part, said the scholarship program is part his administration's vision of providing brighter future to Apaliteño youth.

He said the local government continues to craft programs that are aimed at uplifting the level of education in the town for the benefit of the future generations.

"Education is among our top priorities because we believe in the abilities of our youth, and that they are still the hope of our nation. By investing in their education, we are positive that we will be reaping greater rewards as they will be our next leaders," he said.
