ONE of the busiest municipal roads in Mexico, Pampanga is set for rehabilitation this year, said Mayor Teddy Tumang.

The internal road along barangays San Antonio and San Jose Matulid serves as an alternative route to motorists to escape heavy traffic at the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa) during rush hours.

But since the major thoroughfare is closed to give way to its rehabilitation, the flow of traffic was directed to different parallel internal roads, including that of Barangays San Antonio-San Jose Matulid on Tuesday, September 8.

However, motorists were faced with another dilemma as a portion of the road in Barangay San Antonio started deteriorating.

Motorists expressed their concerns to SunStar Pampanga last weekend over the possible threat to safety the uneven road and huge potholes pose.

According to Tumang, the leak of a water pipe under the ground caused the deterioration of the thoroughfare.

"Nag-leak iyong water pipe sa ilalim kaya lumambot iyong lupa at nag-crack ang semento sa taas," the mayor said.

Temporarily, Tumang said the local government covered the road with soil to make it even and safe to motorists.

He said rehabilitation of the road will be conducted after the construction of Jasa is finished before the year ends.

"Hindi natin pwedeng pagsabayin ang construction dahil magbubuhol-buhol ang traffic sa ibang daan so temporarily tinambakan na muna natin iyong daan," he said.
