Angeles government raises awareness on gender sensitivity, violence

THE Angeles City Government under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. continues to strengthen the awareness of women on gender sensitivity and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Through this, as part of the City Government’s celebration of Women’s Month, the Gender and Development Office led by Mina Cabiles conducted Gender Sensitivity and Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) on March 24, 2022 at the Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, which was attended by the 33 VAWC officers.

Lazatin wants to underscore the need for officers to gain more awareness in order to assist the citizens of Angeles City even better.

“We want to ensure that they will continue to build bridges to further enhance venues and ‘safe spaces,’ especially with domestic violence regarding gender and sex,” Lazatin said.

This was also echoed by lawyer Sabrina Suarez, GAD’s legal consultant.

“Keng VAWC ning Angeles, balu de ing obra da,” she remarked as she spoke in regards to the performance of the officers.

Sherryl Santos, Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking-Violence Against Women and Their Children (RIACAT-VAWC) secretariat of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Central Luzon and a registered social worker, further spoke about Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity or Expression (Sogie), cyber safety, human/child trafficking, and many more related to gender, development, and the improvement for safe spaces.

Alongside, officers are trained in many more undertakings like these, to maintain and further preserve their knowledge with regards to OSAEC and Gender Sensitivity.

Other activities lined up for the celebration of women’s month through the efforts of GAD are the visual art exhibit, “Óbrang Bábáyi” at SM Clark until March 31, financial assistance for 660 indigent women, solo parents, and VAWC survivors last March 8 to 9, and turn-over of hygiene kits to 1,871 female Persons Deprived of Liberty last March 16.
