BALANGA CITY -- Bataan Governor Albert Raymond Garcia is mulling ordinances that will ban unhealthy food in schools and setting curfew for liquor sale in all food establishments in the province.
During a meeting of the Provincial Local Health Board, Garcia expressed his intention to ban junk food and sodas within the premises of private and public schools.
"The idea is to regulate unhealthy food consumption of students within the school vicinity. With regards to outside school premises where students have access to junk food, we are deciding to set a certain radius from the school wherein stores are not allowed to sell junk food and soft drinks," Garcia said.
It was discussed before that the ban will apply within 100-meter radius from a school but the Committee on Health of the Provincial Board has yet to convene to discuss the coverage of the ordinance.
The local chief executive is also eyeing to reduce liquor sale and consumption of his constituents.
Alcoholic beverages in all bars, restaurants and food establishments will be required to have a curfew though the time has not yet been discussed.
"Taming liquor during late night hours would also be a solution to reduce alcohol-related accidents in the province," Garcia furthered. (PIA-Central Luzon)
