CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Central Luzon is the second top producer of bangus (milkfish) in the country in 2022, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region III (BFAR-3) reported.

BFAR-3 said the country produced some 387,964 metric tons of bangus last year.

Around 23% of it, or some 85,000 metric tons, came from provinces in Central Luzon, the agency added.

“Central Luzon maintained a significant presence in the national milkfish production, ranking 2nd for the year 2022, further underscoring the region's vital role in contributing to the country's fish supply,” said Wilfredo Cruz, director of BFAR-3.

Cruz reaffirmed the BFAR Central Luzon's commitment to meeting the fish demand for the rest of the year 2023.

He vowed support to the fish production industry, both big and small fish farm operators.

“Central Luzon remains steadfast in its mission to provide ample, high-quality fish to its residents. With innovative solutions and a resilient spirit, the region is poised to overcome challenges and maintain its status as a vital hub for the Philippines' fish supply,” he said.
