CebPac launches ‘Juan Effect’ for tourism, environment

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Cebu Pacific Air recently launched a program aimed at promoting both tourism and environmental protection.

Charo Logarta Lagamon, director for Corporate Communications of Cebu Pacific, disclosed this during the monthly forum dubbed Talk Widus of the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) at the Widus Hotel and Casino the other day.

The carrier initiated the program dubbed “Juan Effect” for sustainable tourism program in cooperation with the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Lagamon said Cebu Pacific will start using recyclable materials and biodegradable utensils in all of its flights starting October 2018.

“Each one of us has a part to play in helping protect our environment. It is an advocacy for sustainable tourism. We want tourism to grow, in Clark or anywhere else in the country,” Lagamon said.

Tourism at the grassroots level has generated jobs and provided livelihood for many people, Lagamon added.

“Of course if you have a destination, there would be food vendors, rent towels, tricycles, whatever. It has generated economic activities at the grassroots level,” she added.

But tourism has affected the affected the environment and Cebu Pacific recognizes the need to implement programs to protect it, Lagamon said.

“As we opened up destination such as Clark, there are many other places in this country that could contain the influx of tourists. There are many islands where garbage is a problem,” Lagamon said.

Cebu Pacific implemented the program as a call to stop using plastic which destroys the environment.
