CL farmers consulted on agribusiness needs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO The Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) held a consultation with several farmer groups from Central Luzon and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on January 10 held in Baguio City.

AMAS Officer-in-Charge Director Junibert De Sagun said the purpose of the activity is to get inputs from stakeholders.

“This consultation will be a fruitful one, hopefully makahingi tayo ng insights and recommendations from our stakeholders. As we go along, nakikita natin kung ano pa ang kulang, ano pa ang kailangan para pagandahin ang mga proyekto at programa,”Sagun said.

Some of the problems of local farmers discussed during the meeting include transportation, selling their products, limited capital, and lack of produce storage facilities.

Macro-Economic Policy Division Chief Tisha Pia Dela Rosa diaclosed the agency's directive and strategy projects and programs to ensure food security.

He discussed the 8-Point Socio-economic Agenda, National Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization and Industrialization Plan, and DA Priority Areas.

AMAS Representative Irish Joan Atibo reported the directive of the National Government for the Agribusiness sector such as the Kadiwa Program and other programs anchored in marketing support.

Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey, Regional Technical Director for Operations Danilo Daguio and AMAD Chief Joan Bacbac of DA-CAR, Senior Agriculturist Menchie Nogoy and some employees from DA-Central Luzon also attended the meeting.
