The Department of Health (DOH) over the weekend reported that 150 cases of measles have been recorded in Central Luzon from January 1 to March 15 this year.

Of the 1,185 cases logged during the period, the National Capital Region recorded the highest number of cases with 295, followed by Central Luzon and Calabarzon with 144.

The reported cases this year went up by 27 percent from the 930 cases recorded in the same period last year.

The DOH added that 802 cases, or 68 percent, are children.

The agency urged parents to have their children vaccinated against measles to avert a surge in cases.

Immunization is underway for children aged 0 to 12 months, the DOH said.

The first dose of measles vaccine is given on the ninth month and the second dose on the 12th month, it added.

The agency said people may go to the nearest health center to know the schedules of vaccination.
