Computerized census database hastens relief distribution

SAN SIMON -- Amid the adversity experienced by this town during the heavy downpours recently, the local government here was still quick to provide relief assistance to the affected residents through the computerized census database it utilizes.

Dubbed as “Local Socio-Economic Census Database,” Mayor Leonora Wong said that it helped in quickly generating information about needy residents who were distressed by the flooding in their communities.

Wong noted the database can quickly generate information such as the number of families in every barangay, as well as each family members’ names, exact address, and age.

While the database is also used in other programs of the local government, Wong said that it is most effective during relief distributions to quickly identify the beneficiaries who are in urgent need of assistance.

“During relief operations, we do not need to write our beneficiaries every now and then. We only need to access the database and it will quickly generate the list. In that way, we lessen our preparation and we can immediately conduct relief operations to our needy constituents,” he said.

“Unless there are new settlers, we can assume that the database is very much effective. And if, in that case, there are new settlers in the barangay that were also affected, we can also immediately enlist them in our database so that they can receive the same benefits as other Simonians,” Wong added.

The Local Socio-Economic Census Database is part of the innovation continuously developed by the local government, through its information technology and communications sector, to better serve Simonians.

The database is updated annually through official data gathering to ensure that it can properly cater its purpose of listing the official population survey in San Simon, Wong noted.
