Cop in hot water for alleged rape

A POLICE officer is in hot water after allegedly raping a 24-year-old female inside the barracks.

Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon director, has ordered the immediate relief from his post of Lieutenant Jimmy Fegcan, a member of the San Miguel Police Station in Bulacan.

The female was arrested for violation of Provincial Ordinance 87-2020 (curfew), said De Leon.

The victim accused the suspect of allegedly raping her dawn of October 28, 2020 inside the barracks of the police officer.

"I ordered his immediate relief pending the investigation being conducted. We will not condone this misdemeanor and appropriate charges will be filed against him, both administrative and criminal, if warranted," De Leon said.

Disciplining and dismissing erring police personnel show efforts of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in removing bad eggs in the police force in line with PNP Chief Camilo Cascolan's "Pulis Ko'y Respetado, Responsble at Disiplinado" program and that the rule of law does not distinguish rank, position or popularity whether victim or respondent in the PNP organization, De Leon said.

"This is a clear manifestation of our keen determination to remove misfits among the ranks of our organization," he added.

The suspect is temporarily detained at the San Miguel police station while awaiting for inquest proceedings for allegedly violating Republic Act 8353 or Anti-Rape Law, he said. (Ric Sapnu)
