Cop nabbed for extortion

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A policeman assigned as jail guard at the Mabalacat City Police Station was arrested on Friday for allegedly extorting money from an inmate’s relative.

The police officer was identified as Chief Master Sergeant Randy Maurillo Dinio.

He was arrested during an entrapment operation launched by the Pampanga Police Provincial Investigation Unit and Mabalacat Police.

Based on her sworn statement, Mia May Senio said her husband was arrested on September 7 for violation of Section 5 and Section 11 under Art. II of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Senio said when she visited her husband at the Mabalacat City custodial facility on September 9, the suspect offered to assist in having the charges for violating Section 5 of RA 9165, filed against her husband at the Angeles Regional Trial Court, dropped in exchange for P70,000.

The victim allegedly gave P51,000 to the suspect on the same day, and the remaining amount was set to be given on September 22.

Senio then sought the assistance of the local police which resulted in the conduct of the entrapment operation against the suspect.

During the entrapment, Dinio allegedly received the marked money from the victim, prompting the police to immediately arrest him.

Colonel Levi Hope Basilio, director of Pampanga Police Provincial Office, said Dinio is detained at the Mabalacat City Police.

He added that the suspect is now facing charges for robbery extortion and administrative cases.
