Corpus vows probe on priest death

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus has vowed to conduct a thorough investigation on the violent death of a priest in Nueva Ecija province recently.

On Sunday evening, Father Richmond Nilo of San Pablo Chapel in Zaragoza town in Nueva Ecija was shot dead from the chapel window by still unidentified assailants before he preside a Holy Mass in Barangay Mayamot in the said province.

Corpus said in a statement that he ordered the Nueva Ecija police will conduct an in-depth probe to immediately identify and arrest the perpetrators of the crime and provide justice for Nilo’s family and parishioners.

“I have ordered my men to conduct thorough investigation for the possible identification and apprehension of the suspects the soonest possible time. We will ensure that no stones will be left unturned in this case,” he said, adding that the “Central Luzon police strongly condemns the senseless killing of Father Nilo.”

Corpus disclosed that a special investigation “Task Group Nilo” is already created and is headed by Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office Deputy Provincial Director who will look into evidences that will establish the possible motive of the killing.

He also urged possible witnesses to relay all relevant information relative to the crime that will lead to the quick resolution of the Father Nilo’s case.

“As we are committed to ensure the safety and security of our communities and vow to prevent lawlessness in our society, we cannot do this alone. Once again, I appeal to the general public to help us,” he said.
