A FEW days before the fiesta celebration of St. Peter the Apostle, the number of active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Apalit town continued to decline.
As of Tuesday, June 22, the local government reported that there were only 48 active Covid-19 cases in town.
This is the lowest number reported in the town since the cases of Covid-19 surged in March, in which the municipality recorded over 100 active cases for several days.
As the fiesta celebration approaches, the local government continues to prepare and implement measures to mitigate, if not totally prevent, the spread of the virus.
On Wednesday, Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. led the inspection of the Apung Iru Shrine in Barangay Capalangan to ensure that all safety protocols are in place.
The shrine, along with the St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Barangay San Juan, is expected to receive the influx of devotees during the three-day fiesta celebration on June 28 to 30.
Tetangco reminded that only ApaliteƱos are allowed to attend mass and visit the Apung Iru shrine during the fiesta.
Liquor ban will also be up starting June 26 to further discourage gathering, which may cause anew spread of the virus.
It could be remembered that around two dozens of individuals were infected after a worker from Manila went home and engaged in a drinking session during last year's fiesta celebration.
As of Tuesday, June 22, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the town has already reached 809, in which 701 recovered and 60 died.
