Covid-19 coordination center to rise in Bataan Freeport Area

MARIVELES, Bataan -- The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) will soon launch a Covid-19 Coordination Center (CCC) inside the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).

AFAB administrator Emmanuel Pineda said the facility is now under review and is aimed towards promoting access of information and assistance among the FAB community.

“The CCC also aims to serve as a meeting point for those who need help and those who want to give help,” he said Wednesday, May 20, in his virtual public briefing.

Pineda stressed that they are continuously working on other means to either extend help or find employment for displaced workers in the Freeport.

In its efforts to provide aid, AFAB has been donating food relief and personal protective equipment to the FAB community including barangays in Mariveles, Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital, and Mariveles District Hospital.

Last March 23, AFAB provided the Provincial Government of Bataan and Municipal Government of Mariveles with P3 million financial assistance each meant to provide economic relief to displaced FAB workers particularly those under “No Work, No Pay” status.

As of February 2020, FAB has more than 40,000 employees most of which are residents in Bataan.

“There will also be a moratorium for rental payments and bills brought by the enhanced community quarantine. This way, we hope to at least alleviate the burden of investors and of our fellowmen in these trying times,” he said.

“Rest assured that AFAB is doing its best to continuously fulfill its mandate for the benefit of its stakeholders. We pray for everyone’s health and safety,” Pineda added. (PIA-Central Luzon)
