The City of San Fernando Public Order and Safety Coordinating Office (POSCO) said it has launched an investigation to identify individuals involved in drag racing along Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) at night.
The activity came to light after a video, which is now deleted circulated on social media. It showed at least two modified vehicles engage in racing along the busy public road.
The footage sparked concern among netizens, with many pointing out the dangers the activity posed to other motorists and pedestrians.
In a phone interview, POSCO focal person Darius Hizon said that traffic enforcers were on duty at the time and attempted to apprehend the racers.
“Since the vehicles were modified for racing, they were able to evade our enforcers during the incident,” Hizon said.
He added that POSCO is coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to identify the individuals behind the incident and hold them accountable.
“This is a serious concern. JASA is a major and high-traffic road that is absolutely not meant for racing. We are committed to ensuring that those responsible are properly apprehended,” Hizon said.
He also reminded the public that drag racing on public roads is illegal and dangerous.
Hizon said violators may face penalties under existing traffic and safety regulations.
