CSF 'Kutseros' get free horses

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO---"Kutseros" (coachmen) in the City of San Fernando recently received horses for their "calesas" (two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage) from the city government here.

The 12 free horses were given by the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office and City Tourism and Investment Promotions Office to members of the Calesa Association of San Fernando during simple rites at the Giant Lantern and Tourism Information Center.

The work animals are under the "Horse for Calesa" initiated last year by the administration Mayor Vilma Caluag which aims to boost the livelihood of the kutseros.

It also aims to preserve the iconic calesa, being part of the Fernandino culture.

The two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage has become an affordable, all-season mode of transportation in the city and a tourist attraction.

The kutseros were also given food, vitamins and free check up for the horses from the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office.

The city government is planning to give the coachmen free carriages next month along with additional support and assistance as they continue to serve Fernandinos.
