Delta condemns killing of vice mayor bet; offers P500,000 reward

PAMPANGA Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda on Saturday condemned the attack on Sasmuan First Municipal Councilor Jesus Angeles who is set to run as the Kambilan’s vice-mayoral bet in the May 2019 elections.

Police report showed Angeles was jogging on Dalan Baba in Barangay Sta. Lucia when two men stabbed and shot him around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6.

Angeles sustained eight stab wounds and two gun shots, his attending physician said. Angeles was declared dead at 10:41 a.m. after being confined in an intensive care unit in a local hospital, the report added.

The suspects masked their heads and faces with bonnets.

Vice Governor Pineda, chair of the political party Kambilan, called the attack “uncalled for and inhumane.”

He urged the police to increase their visibility as the date of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the mid-term elections draws near starting October 11.

“Vice Governor Pineda is praying and hoping that the campaign and election period will be without violence. There should be no life or limbs lost because political contests should be fought fairly and squarely,” Board Member Rosve Henson said.

Henson said Kambilan candidates were expected to abide by party rules to resort only to peaceful means of campaigning.

P500,000 for information

Meanwhile, the vice governor urged the police to bring the perpetrators to justice as he upped the reward money to P500,000 after Angeles was declared dead.

“Governor Lilia Pineda, Vice Governor Dennis Pineda and the entire Kambilan seek justice and deeply mourn the death of Councilor Angeles. We lost a good public servant. We grieve with his immediate family and constituents,” said Henson.

Henson said the vice governor could not think of any other motive in the killing other than politics because Angeles was not involved in any dispute and lived a simple life and was particularly helpful to poor people.

“Stabbing a person eight times indicates anger. The police should look further into this,” Henson pointed out.

“Vice Governor Pineda is praying and hoping that the campaign and election period will be without violence. There should be no life or limbs lost because political contests should be fought fairly and squarely,” Henson said.
