Dengue prevention is better than cure - village chief

A VILLAGE chief in Angeles City underscored cleanliness in order to prevent the spread of dengue virus which has claimed the lives of many children in the country.

“Dengue prevention is better than cure,” Balibago village chairman Tony Mamac said.

Places with lots of stagnant and dirty water, canals or waterways, unmaintained houses or structures are more predisposed to become breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, according to Mamac.

“Our environment team, headed by barangay environmental officer (BEO) Manuel Tolentino, conducts everyday cleanup drive to our canals, drainage and waterways which are the favorite breeding grounds of carrier dengue mosquitoes,” Mamac said.

Some of the drainage and areas already covered by the clean-up drive are drainages surrounding Pabalan Elementary School, Balibago Sr. and Jr. High School, Tarlac St., Vincent St., Hadrian St, Gueco Elementary School, among others, he added.

Mamac said this program is a genuine public service implemented by their environment team.
