With the onset of the rainy season, the Department of Health (DOH) has urged the public to take measures to prevent W.I.L.D. diseases.
W.I.L.D. refers to Waterborne diseases, Influenza-like illnesses, Leptospirosis, and Dengue which are common illnesses that increase during the rainy season.
The DOH advised the public to monitor weather updates regularly, wear appropriate rain gear such as raincoats and boots, and ensure access to clean and safe drinking water.
The agency also encouraged households to implement preventive measures such as the “4S” strategy against dengue: Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, and support fogging or spraying in high-risk areas.
The department promoted the “4T” habit—Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, Takip, which involves flipping containers, emptying stagnant water, keeping surroundings dry, and covering water storage to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
Persons experiencing symptoms of any of the W.I.L.D. diseases are urged to seek medical attention immediately.
The DOH reminded the public that free medical consultations are available through its Telekonsulta Hotline 1555 (Press 2).
“Preparedness is key. By following preventive measures, W.I.L.D. diseases can be avoided,” the DOH said.
