THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two flood control structures in Camiling, Tarlac.

The municipality is one of the places in the province of Tarlac identified by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as vulnerable to flooding.

DPWH Tarlac 1st District Engineer Erelina Santos said out of its 61 barangays, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office-Central Luzon has tagged 22 barangays with high susceptibility to flooding.

By constructing flood control structures, this may help in preventing any negative socio-economic impacts of floods such as loss of lives, property, and livelihood.

She added that recurring flooding often discourages long-term investments in the area.

The P98-million infrastructure is entitled Flood Management Program Construction/Maintenance of Flood Mitigation Structures and Drainage Systems Construction of Flood Control Structures along Camiling River Left Bank, Poblacion D to G section Phase I and II.

It has a total net length of 459 meters and was completed earlier than planned to ensure that residents will now be less susceptible to flooding. (PR)
